Chapter XIX: Repose in the Self

# Sanskrit Original Translation by Bart Marshall Translation by John Richards Translation by Swami Nityaswarupananda
Janaka said: With the tongs of Truth I have plucked the thorn of thinking from the innermost cave of my heart. Janaka: Using the tweezers of the knowledge of the truth I have managed to extract the painful thorn of endless opinions from the recesses of my heart. Janaka said: I have extracted from the inmost recesses of my heart the thorn of different disquisitions with the pincers of the knowledge of Truth.
Where is meditation, pleasure, prosperity or discrimination? Where is duality? Where even is Unity? I abide in the glory of Self. For me, established in my own glory, there is no religion, sensuality, possessions, philosophy, duality or even non-duality. For me who abide in my own glory, where is Dharma, where is Kama, where is Artha, where is discrimination, where is duality, and where is even non-duality?
Where is past and future, or even present? Where is space, or even eternity? I abide in the glory of Self. For me established in my own glory, there is no past, future or present. There is no space or even eternity. For me abiding in my own glory, where is past, where is future, where is even present, where is space, or where is even eternity?
Where is Self? Where is not-Self? Where is good and evil, confusion and clarity? I abide in the glory of Self. For me established in my own glory, there is no self or non-self, no good or evil, no thought or even absence of thought. Where is Self or not-Self, where likewise is good or evil, where is anxiety or non-anxiety for me who abide in my own glory?
Where is sleeping, dreaming, waking, or even the fourth state? Where is fear? I abide in the glory of Self. For me established in my own glory, there is no dreaming or deep sleep, no waking nor fourth state beyond them, and certainly no fear. Where is dream, where is deep sleep, where is wakefulness, where is the fourth state, and where is even fear for me who abide in my own glory?
Where is close or far, in or out, gross or subtle? I abide in the glory of Self. For me established in my own glory, there is nothing far away and nothing near, nothing within or without, nothing large and nothing small. Where is distance or proximity, exterior or interior, grossness or subtlety, for me who abide in my own glory?
Where is life and death? Where is the world and worldly relations? Where is distraction and stillness? I abide in the glory of Self. For me established in my own glory, there is no life or death, no worlds or things of this world, no distraction and no stillness of mind. Where is death or life, where the worlds or the worldly relations, where diffusion or concentration, for me who abide in my own glory?
There is no need to talk about the three ends of life. To talk of yoga is purposeless. Even talking about Truth is irrelevant. I rest in Self alone. For me remaining in myself, there is no need for talk of the three goals of life, of yoga or of knowledge. For me who am reposing in Self, there is no need of talking about the three ends of life, about Yoga and about wisdom.
